Device Compatibility
HDMI vs RCA: What’s the Difference for Your Boateye360 Camera?
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface)
- Delivers digital video with high resolution, supporting up to 4K. The default setting is 1080p at 30fps (Recommended) for optimal performance.
- Provides a sharper, cleaner image at high resolution with no signal degradation.
- Compatible with most modern TVs, marine chart plotters (MFDs), and our external monitor.
- Ideal if you want the best picture quality, especially if you're using our external monitor or any HDMI input-compatible marine chart plotter.
RCA (Composite Video / CVBS / BNC)
- Delivers analog video, limited to standard-definition (SD) quality (typically 480p).
- Works with many older chart plotters that support composite PAL/NTSC video inputs.
- More flexible for integration into existing marine electronics that don’t support HDMI.
- Better for long-distance cable runs where HDMI may degrade without boosters.
- Simpler wiring—easy to splice, extend, or split the signal without digital converters.
- Cost-effective solution when high resolution isn’t critical but reliable visibility is still needed.
Note:- Don't let people fool you into thinking resolution is everything. At the end of the day, resolution depends on your screen. For example, you could buy a 4K camera, but if your chartplotter or monitor only supports 720p, you won’t see the benefit. Save money and choose the best camera that’s actually compatible with your display or chart plotter.
